About your new Labrador puppy…

We’re not professional breeders — Sugar is our family dog — but that doesn’t take away from the fact that you’ll be hard pressed to find better puppies than these. Both Sugar and Peso come from top champion bloodlines, with national and international champions in their recent pedigrees. Both are incredibly obedient and loyal, extremely smart, eager to please and easy to teach, house-trained family dogs, and about the birdiest bird-dogs you’ll ever see.

Peso and Sugar — and their pups — have all the traits that top breeders, judges and bird hunters look for in Labrador Retrievers. Whether you’re looking for a family pet or a hard-working hunting dog — or both in one package — you’re not going find better puppies at any price.

Just as important as all that, the puppies are being raised in our family home in Blanco, Texas. Not in some cold kennel at a puppy mill, but in our living room and in our yard, with kids, cats, chickens and furniture all around. That means, when you take your puppy home, it’ll be perfectly socialized and ready to be your loyal companion for life.

MEET THE PUPPIES!

Woo hoo! The puppies were born Sunday, March 5. Sugar had a total of 10 puppies – 1 black boy, 3 black girls, 3 yellow boys and 3 yellow girls. Two of the yellows (one boy and one girl) are deep yellow, close to a “fox red,” which comes from Sugar’s champion UK genetics. Mom and all puppies are doing great. Sugar is proving to be a very good mama.

8 WEEKS UPDATE

WE JUST GOT A SAD CALL FROM THE FAMILY WHO HAD RESERVED GUILDER. THEY HAVE HAD A MAJOR FAMILY SETBACK AND WILL BE UNABLE TO TAKE HIM HOME. HE IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, AND READY TO GO HOME IMMEDIATELY.

Out of all 10 pups of the litter, Guilder is our family favorite. He has an unbeatable personality and is super-engaging and fun. He’s a chip off the old block — he looks just like the baby pics of his dad, Peso, and has a similar personality.

He is up-to-date on shots, and has a clean bill of health from the vet. Come meet Guilder, and see if he’s not the puppy you’ve bene looking for!

PRICE

With dogs, you get what you pay for. We’re charging $1200 for females, $1000 for males. They come with their first round of shots and AKC paperwork.

The difference between these puppies and an “average” one will be obvious the moment you meet them, and will be increasingly obvious over the years you spend together. Quite simply, these are worth a lot more than the average lab! You will find they are generally much smarter, healthier, easier to train, more eager to please, more sociable — and, if you ever breed them, their puppies will be worth a lot more, too! All these traits are probably why you love Labradors in the first place. With pups of this quality, you’ll have that much more to love!

You can come meet Sugar and her puppies in Blanco, TX (in the Hill Country, just north of San Antonio and west of Austin), or we can meet you somewhere within reason and deliver your new puppy to you.

Why is this a great price?

Like I said, we’re not professional breeders. If we were, and if we had the time and expertise to advertise these puppies nationally in all the right dog-advertising places, we could no doubt fetch $3000 or more each. Their pedigree and quality are that good, as you’ll see when you meet them. But we can’t spend full-time marketing them, and it’s important to us is that they go to good homes. So, we’re advertising locally and regionally, and pricing accordingly. Sure, you can get a cheap, run-of-the-mill labrador out of the classified ads or some bulletin board for $700-$800 or so — maybe even less — but with dogs especially, you get what you pay for. Of course, most any lab is a lovable dog. But buying a puppy is a long-term investment. You want one that’s SUPER SMART, OBEDIENT, EAGER TO PLEASE and EASY TO TRAIN and — if you ever breed it — that’ll produce puppies of top value … right?

Let’s do the math. The average lifespan of a labrador is 10-14 years. Say you have your labrador for 10 years. We’re charging about $400 more for these puppies than average around here. That’s $40 per year or less, or about 75 cents a week. If you go the cheap route and pick up an average pup, sure, you may get lucky and get a good one. But odds are, you’ll end up wishing you could go back and pay much more than 75 cents a week for a dog that does what you say, when you say it, doesn’t mess on the rug and chew everything in sight, that’s an exceptional hunter, incredibly smart, great around kids (and cats, and chickens…), and that’ll pay dividends if you ever breed it. So yeah, a little bit more for an exceptionally pedigreed and proven Labrador of the very best quality is more than fair — it’s a bargain.
